Tom Berger enters his 46th season in football as the Defensive Line / Defensive Ends Coach at Deer Park High School, bringing with him one of the most accomplished and respected résumés in the region.

A 1976 graduate of Wyoming High School, Berger was a standout linebacker for the Cowboys, playing under legendary head coach Bob Lewis. His senior season culminated in a state runner-up finish, and his individual accolades included All-State honors and the prestigious That’s My Boy Award. His impact on the program earned him induction into the Wyoming Athletic Hall of Fame.

Berger continued his playing career at Eastern Kentucky University from 1976–1980, where he was a linebacker on the Colonels’ 1-AA National Championship team, gaining experience at the highest collegiate level of the era.

Following his playing days, Berger embarked on a remarkable coaching career spanning more than four decades. He has coached at Tates Creek High School (KY), Monroe High School, and spent 25 years at Connor High School, where he was part of a State Championship team in 1983. He later returned to Wyoming High School for 16 seasons, helping guide the Cowboys to a State Championship in 2018. He now enters his third season at Deer Park High School, continuing his lifelong commitment to developing young athletes.

Throughout his career, Berger has coached across the trenches, with responsibilities including Defensive Line, Linebackers, and Offensive Line—bringing a complete, fundamental understanding of line play on both sides of the ball.

Now retired from his professional career, Coach Berger remains deeply connected to the game he loves. Outside of football, he enjoys fishing and spending time with family and friends.
